Alastair Mowat
Alastair has enjoyed a long and successful career in the brewing industry as a senior executive with Scottish and Newcastle.
A summary of his achievements:
- In 1979 Alastair was responsible for introducing computerised tills (Zonal Ltd) to retail outlets.
- With A James, then Director of Retail, he devised "Cool-trader", the first bespoke bottle refrigerator designed for pubs and hotels (1980).
- Managed the marketing of Newcastle Brown Ale, McEwans and Youngers for 13 years. Worked on the introduction and development of "Becks Bier" to 400,000 barrels as Marketing Director (1986). Involved in the creation of "Castaway", the first Adult Beverage Bottle (1985). Was a member of the defence team in the John Elliot attempted purchase of S&N plc (1987-8).
- Introduced Newcastle Brown Ale to the USA with Richard Keith (1988). Now selling 450,000 barrels approx. Supervised "International" growth in the Baltic & China when Chairman of the International Division.
- Introduced marketing as a function to retailing of pubs (1975-82). Worked with AY Milre on Organisation Development (1980's).
- Developed TR Theakston's Brand from 60,000 barrels to 350,000 barrels (1988-1994). Marketing & Development the main forte. 1995-2004 created and directed a 500 Estate from scratch for T&J Hemmings.
- Worked with Russell Sharp, Richard Keith and Dougal Sharp on the development of "Innis & Gunn" - the new product & brand owned by Wm Grant (2004). Involved recently with Russell Sharp in the Marketing & Distribution of Edinburgh Pale Ale.
